Travon Free is an Academy Award-winning and five-time Emmy Award-winning writer and director. He wrote and co-directed the Netflix short film TWO DISTANT STRANGERS, which won him the Oscar for Best Live Action Short.

Currently, he is directing and producing the Marshawn Lynch documentary for Amazon.

Travon’s next project will be directing the Apple TV film RAZORBLADE TEARS, based on the New York Times bestselling novel by S.A. Cosby, that he also adapted, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Travon also wrote a heist feature THE GRAND COMPLICATION for Amazon and wrote an UNTITLED IDRIS ELBA feature at Apple TV with Simon Kinberg producing.

Travon co-directed the HBO documentary BS HIGH with Adam McKay and Michael Strahan producing, and directed three episodes of the Freeform series SINGLE DRUNK FEMALE. On the TV-writing front, Travon supervised on HARLEM at Amazon, wrote on the HBO series WINNING TIME, produced on BLACK MONDAY for Showtime, and supervised on Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s HBO series CAMPING. Travon also ran the scripted series HARDLY WORKING for CBS All-Access. Travon got his start on staff at THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART, followed by THE DAILY SHOW WITH TREVOR NOAH, and FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE where he became head writer.

Travon also produced 38 AT THE GARDEN, the HBO documentary on Jeremy Lin, which also won the Emmy Award for best short documentary. In 2022, Travon claimed a Sports Emmy for co-writing and co-directing WHAT AGNES SAW, a short film about a 100-year-old Olympian, which was played as part of the opening ceremony during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He has also directed multiple commercials for major brands like Nike and Royal Enfield, as well as having written and directed the most talked about Super Bowl ad of 2026 with Ben Simmons and Tiffany Haddish, “The Ex Communicators.”
